Neighborhood
Known as the jewel in the heart of North Yorkshire, Richmond is a market town with plenty of charm. Despite the many cafes, bistros, restaurants, pubs and bars, little has actually changed in Richmond throughout the centuries. There is plenty of history for you to discover. Enjoy a live show at The Georgian Theatre, which is actually the oldest theatre in Europe. Visit Richmond Castle which has an interactive museum on site so it’s definitely worth a visit!

Just a stone’s throw from the cottage, you’ll find The Station. This gorgeous Old Victorian Railway Station has been given a new lease of life with a mix of artisan shops, a cinema, an art gallery and a café bar. You can sample beer brewed in house from Richmond Brewing company. The café bar also won the best café in the Herriot Awards recently so you’re in for a real treat.

Richmond is great for walking. There is a great river walk to Easby Abbey which is a free site to visit from English Heritage. Another beautiful walking area is Richmond Falls which is just down the hill from the marketplace. When the weather is nice, we recommend having a picnic at The Batts.

Getting Around
Darlington train station is 12 miles from Richmond and has great links to cities like Newcastle, Manchester and Edinburgh.

Richmond also has great bus routes. The X26 and X27 travel from Darlington through to Colburn, with stops in Catterick. The scenic Dalesbus has routes to Ribblehead, Hawes and Bentham.

The house is beautiful, well equipped and close to town. Our hosts were welcoming and easy to get hold off by text. A welcome basket of goodies were supplied which after a four hour drive were much appreciated. If I was hosting a large family group again in the area I would have no hesitation in booking this again. There was nothing to dislike.

it was spacious and all bedrooms were en-suite. it was easy to access the town no designated parking. a neighbour told us we had parked where the dental nurses parked but there was no signs to say it was for them

Excellent location with everything you need in waking distance. clean, tidy and warm in the winter. great cooking facilities enough utensils etc to actually cook for 14 if you have that many staying. beds were comfy and the rooms all had their individual charms, not all to the same tastes but that is part of the charm.
