The Victorian Spa town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a jewel on the North Yorkshire coast. With long stretching sandy shores and a buzzing surf scene, this delightful seaside town is perfect for a relaxing staycation. Not only does Saltburn boast a 208-metre pier – the last of its kind in the North East – and the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK, it is also home to amazing independent restaurants, pubs and bars.

Keep reading to find out our favourite spots and why you should pay them a visit…

No. Twenty Three

Recently opened in Saltburn, No. Twenty Three serves Neapolitan style pizzas, craft beers and an incredible gin selection! Whether you’re looking for a quick bite to eat or you want to make a night of it, this neighbourhood restaurant and bar is the ideal spot.

With a cool, laidback atmosphere, it offers something completely different in Saltburn and it’s no surprise it’s already a hit! Our personal favourite pizzas include the Napoli Hot (if you like spicy food, you’ll enjoy this one) and the Napoli Prosciutto. If you’re a vegetarian, the Napoli Vegetariana is delicious.

Seaview Restaurant

Perfectly named, this gorgeous seafood restaurant is located right on the seafront so you can expect the most incredible views of the beach and Huntcliff in the distance. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful breakfast or lunch in the sunshine, Seaview serves up delicious food in a lovely atmosphere.

The restaurant serves the freshest seafood which lands from the surrounding waters daily. Our personal favourites are the moules mariniere which are served with gorgeous sourdough bread and fries, or traditional fish and chips. After all, nothing beats fish and chips by the sea in North Yorkshire!

The Guns Bar

One of our favourite places for a drink in Saltburn is The Guns Bar. This quirky bar offers local craft ale, world beers and over 40 different gins! With perfectly paired tonics and botanicals, you’ll get the full gin experience.

The Guns Bar has a unique feel. It has a rustic look with lots of little nooks making it perfect for get togethers in groups. In the winter months, the log burner is lit making it super cosy. When its summertime, you can sit outside and enjoy fruity beers. Either way – The Guns Bar is a popular hotspot whatever the time of year.

Signals

Located in Station Square, Signals is a dog-friendly bistro open 7 days a week. Open all day, they do great menus with plenty of options. With a charming seaside feel yet a cool vibe, Signals has really put its stamp on Saltburn.

As night descends over the weekends, it transforms into a bar serving up cocktails and craft beers with DJs, open mic nights and comedy clubs. If you’re looking for a night out, head to Signals. Our top pick is their Amaretto Jam cocktail – so good!

The Sitting Room

This eclectic tea shop doubles up as a vintage tea house during the day and a quirky bar by night. Although small in size, the café makes up for it in character. Mismatched tables and chairs, dark coloured walls, an exposed brick bar, fairy lights… The Sitting Room is certainly bursting with personality.

You can get your hands on real-leaf teas and homemade cakes then come night-time, cocktails, craft beers and wine. The best place in Saltburn for an Espresso Martini, their cocktails are hard to beat!

Coco & Rum

Also in Station Square is the Thai fusion restaurant of Coco & Rum. Whether you’re looking to eat in or takeaway, Coco & Rum offers freshly cooked food to order and it really is tasty! You can choose how spicy your meal is from mild, moderate to spicy so your dish is catered just for you.

Originally opened in 2017, the restaurant has a sleek and monochrome look. If you’d prefer a relaxing night in instead, they also do takeout and you’ll get 20% off your order if you do choose to take away! If you’re planning on visiting, we’d recommend the Thai green curry and pad Thai noodles.

Rapp’s Café

One of our all-time favourite places in Saltburn, Rapp’s Café offers breakfast, lunch and evening menus. Open seven days a week, you’ll usually find the place bustling with locals and visitors. Rapps caters for everyone so you can expect to see families, solo visitors, couples and groups of friends. When the sun is shining, nothing beats eating outside al fresco style.

If you’re here for breakfast, we’d always recommend the Full English. The lunch menu has great options including specials, children’s meals and desserts. Come evening time, we’d choose a stone baked pizza or fresh Scottish mussels.

So there you have it, our favourite spots to eat and drink in Saltburn-by-the-Sea. With plenty of independent places to visit, you won’t tire of trying new dishes and drinks.
One thing is for certain – you can always guarantee a warm North Yorkshire welcome!
